Exclusive Sneak Peek Clips of 'Seeing Red!"

Hey Horror fans, just wanted to drop in and post the exclusive clips from my upcoming film 'Seeing Red' that I also posted over on the official Dark Harvest Productions Facebook page. this is the first footage from the that has been released, as i mentioned in one of my last posts the film is set to premiere at the 2011 Reel Terror Film Festival put on by Creative Loafing. My 'Cain Rose Up' Dollar Baby Adaptation Script Now Available

Hey there Horror fans, as you all may remember, back in 2008 I was granted the rights by famous horror author Stephen King to adapt his short story 'Cain Rose Up' from his short story collection Skeleton Crew. I tried unsuccessfully for a couple of years to raise a minuscule budget to make that short film a reality, unfortunately I was unable to raise enough funding and the project ended up never leaving the launch pad.

Since then, at least two other Directors around the world have also gotten rights from Mr. King to adapt the story, and both of those adaptation ended up getting produced. I kept my rough script secret all this time, showing it only to a handful of people, I have now decided it's time to share it with you all since it is the only glimpse that will ever exist into my adaptation of the story. Keep in mind the script was a rough draft, and actually is missing some really cool ideas that I had planned but weren't yet incorporated into the script, one good example is I wanted the film to end with the sounds of Kurt shooting, people screaming and police sirens in the distance as the camera panned over to Kurt's open bible which was open to a passage that read "Thou Shall Not Kill" which is splattered in blood and brain matter as Kurt commits suicide just before the screen fades to black and the credit rolls.

'Cain Rose Up' has always been one of my favorite King short stories, I guess because it is was ahead of it's time and essentially predicted the school shooting s across the country in the late 90's, the story was written 20 years or more before the Columbine shootings. I also like that it touches (as do several King stories) on the subject of religious extremism, and shows as history has, how ones warped interpretation of religious teachings can result in murderous and self destructive behavior. Both of these subjects are very timely with the Islamic religious extremism that threatens the Western world at the moment, and of course as I mentioned with the school shootings that have occurred across the country over the past decade. With my adaptation of King's story I wanted to stay as true to King's story as possible, sometimes I even used dialogue verbatim, but to bring a contemporary setting rather than doing a 1970's period piece as the original story.

'Seeing Red' Update!

Hey folks, I know it's been several months since I updated the blog and updated you all on the progress of "Seeing Red". I honestly have been so wrapped up in work that I have been slow to work on the film. I recently started working a second job and between that and my gig at ABC News here in Tampa I am working 7 days a week, and haven't had a day off in over a month, I know, excuses.

I wanted you all to know that the edit has been locked, and right now the only things holding the film back are the sound design and final color correction. I have been working on it slowly but surely in my free moments, and the sound design is currently at about 75% completion, and honestly once that's done the color correction should be a breeze.

Right now my goal is to have it finished by September 16th, which is the deadline for this years "Reel Terror Film Festival" put on by Creative Loafing here in Tampa Bay. As you guys may remember my film "Knicker Knockers" was an official selection for last years inaugural festival. I am going to do everything in my power to have it done in time, if all goes well the film will premiere at the festival on October 22nd. I will keep you all up to date and plan a web premiere for my facebook followers on the same night as the festival premiere, if you'd like to be a part of it and aren't local to Tampa then be sure to "Like" our facebook page!

Seeing Red Teaser Poster is UP! Principal Photography Complete!

I am happy to report that last night we finished principal photography on my new short film "Seeing Red". Last nights shoot was very intense, we were shooting a scene involving the lead character's (A serial rapist) rape fantasy. I am sure this had to be a very challenging and uncomfortable scene for the actors involved but they did an amazing job and I was blow away by their performances.

In retrospect I can say in all honesty that while this was one my most complicated short film shoots ever, but despite that it was also the smoothest shoot I've ever had. I think this had to do mostly with two major factors, one, the fact that I actually had some really dedicated and reliable cast/crew on board this time. In the past I've had so many crew members bail out early in the production, this seems to be a problem that plaques every indie filmmaker who tries to make a film without a budget. It's just so hard to get people motivated when there's no money involved and they realize that filmmaking is a lot of hard work and not as glamorous as they initially think.

Secondly, after having three DP's leave the production during the pre-production phase I ultimately also had to pick up the camera and shoot the film myself. In the past I've always had a Director of Photography and never shot the film myself, and despite proving them with storyboards and other tools, I have never been truly happy with the results and spent far too much time trying to explain what I wanted. Shooting the film myself allowed me to get the shots I wanted and to move on, which ultimately made the shoot move fast and allow me to try out and pick up shots I have not even planned for.

I have begun the rough cut of the film and since this film has very little in the way of post effects compared to my past films I expect post-production to be relatively easy (other than recording ADR, I decided to do ALL of the audio in post from scratch like I did with "Jack in the Box", I'm a sucker for punishment) and hope to have the film finished an ready to screen late this summer. Seeing Red Prinipal Photography Begins!

Hey guys, been super busy with the "Seeing Red" shoot and wanted to update the blog here real quick. Obviously that means that we have began production on the film, and so far things have gone very well. We started shooting Wednesday May 11th and Thursday May 12th at a liquor store location here in Tampa. The third and fourth shoots were held Saturday 21st and Sunday the 22nd. I apologize for being so late to update the blog, but I have mostly been utilizing the Dark Harvest Productions Facebook Groups to keep everyone in the loop during the shoot (Be sure to add us!).

With that said, despite the many set backs we have experienced over the past couple months I feel confident that this is my best film yet. I was very nervous about the shoot after our third Director of Photography left, so I ended up picking up the role of Director of Photography as well as makeup duties on top of everything else I was doing. All in all though, despite some moments in which I felt seriously overwhelmed, I think the film will overall benefit as it allowed me to have even more control over the production and the ability to see my creative vision through. I can honestly say that despite my having to quickly learn to shoot, I can't give all the credit to myself because I had an amazing an dedicated crew this time backing me up the whole way.

Right now awe have about 95% of the film in the can, with only a handful of shots left to grab in our last shoot this Wednesday night. This film has very little in the way of post effects unlike my past films, so I expect post-production to be a relatively easy experience. My goal is to have the film edited and screened in an online premiere by the middle of July. For the latest news keep your eyes peeled here at the Dark Harvest Blog, and on our facebook groups. Dark Harvest Multimedia Services to become Kreh-ative Services!

Hey there horror fans, I just wanted to drop a quick line to make you all aware of some changes here at Dark Harvest Productions. As many of you know I have been offering my creative services through the Dark Harvest Productions Multimedia banner over the past year. Originally I did this to make things simple and not have to have multiple companies and hoped my horror film making would serve as a selling point to impress potential clients, but I quickly realized that though this may have been the case with some clients, I think more were potentially offended or turned away by this aspect of my company.

I decided that in order to reach a broader commercial client base with my creative services, I have decided effective immediately to separate my film-making work from my creative services division and create an entirely new business entity called "Kreh-ative Services", obviously a play on my last name. I have included the new logo above, as you'll see it's a huge departure from my horror oriented Dark Harvest logo, it features bright colors to present a more family friendly image.

New "Seeing Red" Lead Actress Revealed!

As many of you know, we had a bit of a disagreement over terms with our original actress and a couple weeks back began the search for a new lead actress to take over the role of VICKY for our upcoming short film "Seeing Red". We ended up having a very good response and over the past couple weeks have been reviewing audition videos, demo reels and resumes. It was a very hard choice but feel that we have finally made out decision on a replacement!

We are very pleased to announce that the lovely, talented Melody Colina will be joining the production! She comes to us with a background primarily in commercial TV and we feel she has the skills and determination to bring this character to life. Principal Photography on "Seeing Red' is scheduled for early May, the film will be released late Summer or Fall 2011.

More Storyboard Samples! SPOILERS!

Hey guys, just wanted to drop in with some more storyboard samples from the upcoming "Seeing Red" Project that I am working on. I posted these to FB Dark Harvest Group so I figured I may as well post them here also. I've had the boards about 70% complete for a month or two now but I was waiting until we finally had the house location 100% secured before I finished them so I could accurately board the final scenes based on the final location.

Anyhow, figured some of you may be interested in seeing some of this behind the scenes stuff. Some filmmakers only board action scenes or effects heavy sequences (some don't board at all, I think they are crazy), I always board the entire film just so I can pre-visualize as much as possible to hopefully make the shoot as easy as possible, though we always tend to deviate at least slightly from the boards and usually add stuff on the fly once we are on set and filming. It's good to go n with some kind of plan.

First Dark Harvest Collection 1 Review!

Hey Horror Fiends, I just got work that the folks over at I Like Horror Movies.com have posted their review of the "Dark Harvest Collection 1" DVD. I have to admit I was a bit disappointed in the reviews, not only because of the overall scores, but because the reviews themselves seem rushed and simplistic. Now, for the record, I am not just being bitter because of the reviews, I was honestly hoping for a thorough critique, good or bad. Instead the reviews really did seem to be written quickly and at a 5th grade level with little or no analysis of the film other than pointing out various little flaws and providing a very little in the way of a plot outline for the films.

Now I do want to thank them for taking the time out of their busy schedules to watch the films and post the reviews, hopefully it will at least garner some exposure for my films to their readers and ultimately hopefully lead to them watching the films and judging for themselves rather than simply reading the short review.

My first two films, "Graceland" and "Crotch Rot" didn't fair to well, but the reviewer did at least have some positive things to say about 'Knicker Knockers" going it a 6 out of 10 score. "Jack in the Box' came in at 5 Stars. Anyhow, though it hurt my ego a bit, I decided to share them since part of being a filmmaker is listening to your audience and having a thick skin when it comes to these things. After all, it's just a matter of opinion and for every person who dislikes the film I am sure there's also bound to be someone who appreciates it.

I sent several DVD's out for review, hopefully future reviews will be a bit more positive. Either way, Live and learn, and on to the next one! Thanks for the support guys!

"Seeing Red" Updates!

Hello there Horror Fiends! I've been hard at work on the "Seeing Red" film. As you last heard I had cast the actors for the film, and since have unfortunately ran into a couple of issues that are currently holding us back momentarily. The problem is that literally as soon as I announced the cast, I lost a couple of locations for the film.

The film takes place at three main locations, a Liquor Store, an upscale upper-middle class house and a grungy warehouse or garage that serves as the "rape room" in the film. As far back as early January I had secured all of the locations, and they were PERFECT. I'm telling you, I couldn't have found better locations, but sadly I lost both the "rape room" and house locations at once. Since then, my DP Kevin Armstrong has found us another garage location to use, but I have been struggling to find a replacement for the house. Unfortunately as I am sure you all can imagine, it's tough when you working on a low/no budget film. I toured a couple potentials last week that weren't quite what I was looking for, but I also have a few more potentials I have yet to tour so I hope this issue will be remedied soon.

Despite this issue which has brought the production to a temporary halt at the moment, I have been working diligently to get the rest of the production in place. I have all the props secured, got a talented artist to finish the fake police composite sketch that will be used in the film, shot the fake photos which will be used around the set and even have gotten a little bit of footage in the can yesterday! The scene I shot is a faux news segment that I singlehandedly Directed/Shot/Edited and Composited, so I feel pretty good about it, especially since it came out far better than I expected it would with no assistance. So hey, we have shots in the can, that's an accomplishment in itself!

It really is becoming harder and harder to make my films everyday. I lost my full-time job at the State Attorney's Office back in 2009 and was unemployed for almost a year before I picked up a part-time gig at ABC News here in Tampa, and that gig just isn't cutting it. Money is tight and each production of mine seems to become increasingly complicated (Since I am hopefully progressing as an artist I assume they should I guess) and that means each project is more expensive. So far all of my films have been funded out of my own pocket, but I know soon I will have to start looking for other avenues to raise funding. I must also humbly ask that if any of you out there reading this enjoy my films, and would like to see us continue to make films then feel free to make a donation! Whether it's $50 or $500, we will out it to good use and give you a credit on out film (Specials thanks or Executive Producer respectively).

Anyhow that's it for now, Things we have ran into a few issues but that's not going to stop this production. I really feel that this is going to be out best films yet, it's a bit different than my past films in that it doesn't have some big philosophical or moral message behind it, rather it's a straight up, blood splattered horror flick. I think you all are going to enjoy it! Until then I wanted to post a few pics from the "Faux News Segment" shot the other day to show you all how that is progressing!

UPDATE 3-14-2011:

Great News! After posting this original post I quickly received calls from four local home owners who are interested in letting us use their homes to shoot the film! I am blown away by some of the choices I have been given and it's actually going to be hard to make a decision on which one to use since they are all so great! With this new development we should be back on track and I am planning for an early April shoot!

Hey Horror Fiends, I wanted to inform you all that I have made my final cast selections for our upcoming film "Seeing Red". I am very pleased with my selections and I am dying to get rolling on this film! We have ran into a few setbacks but we are planning for a Mid-March shoot, and with the caliber of talent on board both cast and crew I have no doubt this is going to be my best production yet!

All of the actors on this project come to the table with a lot of experience, some of you may recognize Jennifer Ward from her amazing performance in the award winning indie horror shorts "RISEN" as well as "Simone". "Seeing Red" Casting Call Update

Hey guys, Just wanted to drop a line about the "Seeing Red" casting call. We had the auditions this past Saturday and Sunday, February 12 & 13th. Overall I think we had some very good talent turn out, but sadly the turnout was low. Saturday we practically had a total of one audition per hour, luckily Sunday it picked up steam a lot and we had a far larger turnout. As with any audition there is good and bad, but I always have the utmost respect for anyone brave and dedicated enough to actually make it out the an audition, that's the first step and many people will never make it that far.

That being sad, I am very confident that we have the talent we need to make this film a reality. I plan to spend the rest of the week looking over the auditions with my Co-Producer and Cinematographer, but I plan to make my decisions and announce them by early next week. Please stay tuned and check back for that info, I am also including a couple pictures above that we snapped during the auditions they feature myself, actor Chad Waites and Co-Producer Ivan Pedric.

Award Winning Dark Harvest Productions is currently seeking Cast for our upcoming short film “Seeing Red”. This is a short independent film (NON-UNION) with a extremely limited budget. He is relatively attractive but has deep-rooted self-esteem issues and sadistic sexual fantasies; this makes it an inability for him to have a “real” relationship with women outside of sex. His self-esteem issues cause him to avoid actual social interactions or courtship with women, and to instead force women into sex.

VICKY: Female, Mid 20’s to Mid 30’s. Appears to be your typical attractive upper middle class trophy/housewife, she has expensive taste in just about everything. Her expensive clothes, social sophistication and beautiful face hide her true self, part of a serial killing duo that has more in common with Hannibal Lecture than any of any of the Desperate Housewives.

(PREFER SOMEONE COMFORTABLE WITH NUDITY FOR "VICKY" ROLE BUT NOT NECCESSARY)

Dark Harvest Collection 1 DVD Sneak Peek!

We have had a few delays, namely waiting on the final score from the composer for 'Jack in the Box" before we sent the disk off for duplication, but it's now just about ready to go and will be off by the end of the week!

"Cain Rose Up" Dollar Baby Update.

Hello Horror fans, I wanted to update you all to the status of the Stephen King Dollar Baby of "Cain Rose Up" that I have been trying to raise funding for over the past couple years. After many attempts I was unable to raise the funding I needed. Altogether with the donations I raised and the money I threw in left over from my own projects, unfortunately I was only able to raise a small fraction of the minimum $5000 budget I needed to make it a reality.

Unfortunately at this point I am putting that project on the back burner to focus on other projects, I hope to revisit it again sometime in the future once I have more funding in place. Another option I have considered in looking into getting permission from Mr. King to adapt another story altogether, one that would be a little more manageable on a limited budget. My first priority though will be to continue to seeking to make the "Cain" film happen by an means possible before doing so.

I want to thank those of you who made a donation to the project, though we didn't reach our goal I am dedicated to making this or another King Dollar Baby project a reality. I am going to still give you all credits on the film should it eventually get funded and produced. Award Winning Dark Harvest Productions is currently seeking Cast & Crew for our upcoming short film “Seeing Red”. This is a short independent film (Non-SAG) with a extremely limited budget. These positions are not paid, but we can offer IMDB Credit, food on set and a copy of the final film on DVD. Our last two films have won “Best Short Film” awards as well as screening at Festivals nationwide, so there is a lot of opportunity for exposure with this project.

Cast:

STEVE: Male, Late 20’s to Late 30’s, Good Looking and Athletic. Steve has the outward appearance of a normal guy, but in reality is a serial rapist. He is relatively attractive but has deep-rooted self-esteem issues and sadistic sexual fantasies; this makes it an inability for him to have a “real” relationship with women outside of sex. His self-esteem issues cause him to avoid actual social interactions or courtship with women, and to instead force women into sex.

VICKY: Female, Mid 20’s to Mid 30’s. Appears to be your typical attractive upper middle class trophy/housewife, she has expensive taste in just about everything. Her expensive clothes, social sophistication and beautiful face hide her true self, part of a serial killing duo that has more in common with Hannibal Lecture than any of any of the Desperate Housewives.

CHRIS: Male Early 30’s to Late 40’s. Chris is Vicky’s male counterpart, a good looking, well-educated and sophisticated man from an Upper Middle class upbringing. Chris shares Vicky’s murderous passions, the duo travel the country seeking victims of a similar background to their own.

Supporting Cast:

LIQUOR STORE CLERK- a clerk at a liquor store

FEMALE VICTIM - Female, Late 20's-40's

MALE VICTIM - Male, Late 20's-40's

Crew:

Director of Photography (FILLED): Prefer someone with experience using HD-DSLR’s, 35mm Prime Lenses and advanced Lighting skills. Having your own equipment is a plus, but not required as we have access to our own equipment.

Gaffer: Experience greatly preferred

Grips: Experience preferred but not necessary, must be dedicated, dependable and willing to work long hours.

PA’s: Experience preferred but not necessary, must be dedicated, dependable and willing to work long hours

Audio/Boom Operator: Prefer someone with past experience recording audio and boom operating. Must have a good ear and experience recording on a Zoom H4n Recorder.

Photographer: Experience greatly preferred.

Scary Christmas and Happy New years from Dark Harvest Productions! It's that time again, a new year looms and as I look back on the 2010 year we have to have much pride in what we accomplished, and to look forward to another year ahead with new projects and hopefully more exposure for our past projects.

Lets take a look back at some of the highlights from this year via the links below, but first I want to thank all of your for your support, whether it be fans, cast or crew, I honestly could not do this without you. Thanks for helping me on my journey and believing in me, it really means a lot. It's interesting to think that just 5 years ago I was dreaming of making my own films and pursuing my filmmaking dreams, but flash forward and that is now a reality. Sure I'm no Spielberg, and I have a long way to go yet, but I can't help but have a feeling of accomplishment for what I have achieved so far. So Thanks!

With each production I learn and grow, and I think the best is yet to come. I have many projects planned for 2011, starting with our first new short film "Seeing Red". Over the past couple years I've only been able to get about one short film a year into production but I have always hoped to up the ante and at the very least break this cycle and produce two or more. So my goal for 2011 is to do just that, I don't know what the second project will be though I would like to try and finally make my Vietnam War horror short "Survivor Syndrome" a reality. Either way I know that 2011 will be another step forward, and I embrace it with open arms. I hope I can count on continued support form those of you reading this as well!

"Jack in the Box' Premiere a Success!

It's been a few days since the premiere so I am a bit late in updating the blog, but I just wanted to let you all who couldn't make it know how it went. I am happy to say I feel it was a great success. I am very appreciative of the guys over at Reaper Films who allowed us to premiere "Jack in the Box" alongside their feature "If I Can't Have You" to a packed theatre. Packed Theatre? You heard right, I was very pleasantly surprised at the turnout, and the response to JITB was very positive. Those friends and fans of mine that made it to the premiere agreed that this is my best work yet, and despite all the trials and tribulations I had in the production process I can say I am very happy with the results and to finally release it for viewers to see.

There's nothing like sitting in a packed theatre and listening to the crowd laugh and gasp at the right moments in your film, to feel the energy of a hundred and twenty plus people as they see your film for the first time. This is truly what filmmaking is all about, and to me is a very important step forward in my film career. I remember only a few short years ago being back home in Kansas dreaming of becoming a filmmaker, it was a dream that seemed so far away. Flash forward and I have achieved many of the goals I have set for myself by going to film school, wining "Best Short Film" at film festival for two of my shorts and to see my film on a theatre screen as well as many others and I hope I can continue to just keep pushing forward.

What's next? From here I need to continue to hone my skills and work towards finally shooting a feature film that will allow me to finally (hopefully) make some profit from my work and be able to fund other projects. I am hoping that the upcoming Dark Harvest Collection 1 DVD (Order yours now! www.darkharveststore.blogspot.com) can be a step forward in that regard as it truly is becoming increasingly harder to produce my films as I grow and my projects become more and more technically complicated.

With that said, I want to once again thank the cast and crew for sticking with me on this project, believing in it, and dedicating and sacrificing their time to it. WE DID IT!! This has truly been a great learning experience for me, and I hope it was for all of you as well. It's one to the next one!

"Jack in the Box" World Premiere at Muvico Centro Ybor Theatre Next Saturday!

I am a little late in posting this info here on the DHP Blog, But I am very excited to announce that our new short film "Jack in the Box" will be premiering at the Muvico Centro Ybor Theatre next Saturday, Dec 4th alongside Reaper Film's new feature "If I Can't Have You"! I am very excited to be premiering one of my films at an actual movie theatre for the first time, not to mention at one of the nicest theaters in the Tampa Bay area.

How did this come to fruition you ask? Well the talented guys over at Reaper Films, fellow horror filmmakers here in the Tampa Bay area invited me to show my film alongside there's at a rented screen at the theatre. Dark Harvest Productions interview Creative Loafing!

Hey Horror Fans, as I mentioned in my last post, my film "Knicker Knockers" was chosen as an official selection at the Creative Loafing "Reel Terror Film Fest" that took place on October 23rd. I know it's a little late in posting on this subject but I wanted to go ahead and update those of you who couldn't make it out.

The event went great, I saw a ton of really great indie films from the Tampa Bay area, one of the more notable was a lesbian werewolf Flick called "Simone" that was pretty impressive considering it totally pulled it off with minimal effects and some POV shots. But my film screened and the audience reaction seemed positive, I have seen it on the big screen a few times now and it never gets old. There is just something about watching your film on a big screen in front of an audience, it like no other experience and quite frankly makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Dark Harvest Films that Never Were.....

The harsh reality facing Indie Film Makers is that sometimes projects are abandoned and never come to fruition. Usually it is because funding for the projects couldn't be secured, other times cast or crew bail at the last minute making the film impossible and other times the film just simply never happens due to disinterest in the project.

We at Dark Harvest are no exception, we have had several planned projects that never quite panned out. I thought it would be interesting to share some trailers and test footage from some projects that never happened...

SURVIVOR SYNDROME: A Vietnam War Era horror film that never came fruition. The film involved several soldiers who had to resort to cannibalism to survive in a Vietnamese POW camp. I would still like to one day revisit this script, maybe even change the locale to a more modern setting like Afghanistan.

KILLER HEAD: My short film "Crotch Rot" was met with great success and I planned several "Venereal Horror" shorts including a story called "Killer Head". The film was to be about a young man who's obsession with Sex LITERALLY consumes him. Sadly I abandoned the project after a film called "TeetH' came out that same year that was too similar. I do hope to actually shoot this film after doing some revisions one day.

UK Composer Bobby Cole to score "Jack in the Box"

Hey Horror Fans, I wanted to drop in with a quick update on the music and score for our upcoming highly anticipated short film "Jack in the Box". Over the past few months I have been in talks with a very talented composer from the UK after I heard some of their work online via Pond5 a stock music and footage website. I contacted Mr. Cole about one of his works and we began to chat about the possibility of him creating a totally original score for my film. A few months passed and the other day I sent him a link to a private screening of the rough cut of the film, and he loved it!

Needless to say, We are now collaborating and Mr. Cole is working on the original score to the film. I am very excited to have such a talented composer on board, and I think it will add a lot of the film. I will keep you all up to date as I have any more news on the project, but the film is extremely close to a locked edit and subsequent completion of post-production so hopefully this time next month you will all be watching the film!

We are getting closer to completion of Post-Production for our new short film "Jack in the Box" and we are looking for a Hard Rock/Death Metal Band willing to allow us to use a song to feature in one of the film's scenes, the harder the better! In this particular scene, your song would play "on the radio" during a driving sequence.

Dark Harvest Films hitting the TV Air Waves!

Hey guys, some exciting news for all of you horror fans out there. Our short films and video podcasts will be soon airing on cable access TV back in my home state of Kansas!

I am very excited about this unexpected new development but sometimes good things do happen out of the blue. Turns out an old friend from my Butler College days that I hadn't talked to in years, Tammi Verhoeff, contacted me about the possibility of sponsoring my films for a cable access TV station that she works for. Sure it's not national syndication but any opportunity to get my work seen by the masses is a great one in my books!

Now all the details haven't been worked out yet so that is about all the info that I can share at the moment, but the station is in the Salina, KS area ( I lived there for a short time in 2001 interestingly) and I have been assured that my films will not be censored in anyway since they will be airing late night. Obviously if the films do well I will gain a whole new audience and hopefully some support from the home state crowd, as well as the potential to reach other Access Stations across the state and country in the long run.

So for all of your back home who live in the Salina area, get ready for some indie horror filled nights coming soon! I am planning to have an EXCLUSIVE showing of my latest film "Jack in the Box" for those viewers before the films hits film festivals! "Jack in the Box" Premiere Next Month!

Hey horror fans, sorry for the long delay in updating the blog, honestly I have just been so busy and there hasn't been much news worth reporting up until now. I am excited to inform all of you that a premiere of our long anticipated new short film "Jack in the Box" is planned for about a month from now, or Mid-August. The other news is that we are planning to premiere it alongside my long time friend Sid Majurie's (Director of Photography on both our past films "Crotch Rot" & "Knicker Knockers") new feature vampire film "Blood Song", that I also had a hand in doing some visual effects compositing for. finallyThe premiere is planned for a showing at my alma matter, IADT Tampa, along with a simealtaneous web premiere for Dark Harvest Productions Facebook Group members

I am very excited to finally be sharing this new film with the world, I think it is not only my ambitious film from a technical standpoint, but the most mature script I ahve written as well. I still have a ton of post production work to accomplish between now and the showing next month so I am currently working double time to make sure it is ready in time.

I will have details soon on the date and time of the premiere for those of you who wish to attend. Hey guys, We are busy in post on the new short "Jack in the Box" and editing is going well. We do still have one final scene to shoot that was delayed due to recent issues with our DP. Original DP Dustin Wenger recently moved to Texas, and Joseph Dono has taken his place but Joe is currently in France attending the Cannes Film Festival and we won't be able to pick up that shoot until after he returns.

The film is looking great though, and I am very excited about the film. I really think you guys will agree that this is my best film to date and definitely the most ambitious. With that said, I'd like to unveil the official poster for the film, please comment below and let us know what you think!

Hot of the heels of our recent selection and showing of "Knicker Knockers' at the 2010 Ybor Festival of the Moving Image, We also just received notification that we WON "Best Short Film" at the 2010 HauntCON Film Festival! We are very excited about this and as I am sure those of you who are consistent followers of our work will remember that last year we also won the festival for our short "Crotch Rot". That means this is the second year in a row that we have won the festival!

I am obviously really excited and happy about the win, but what makes it even more sweet is that the festival is ran by and for horror geeks. So If we were able to win in that environment, then we must be doing something right! Thanks to the cast and crew and to all of your for your unwavering support as I chase this crazy dream.

Dark Harvest Productions Multimedia Services New Promo!

Wow that title is a mouthful, LOL. Hey guys, I have been busy with the production of our film "Jack in the Box" and we are very close to wrapping the film. Just two quick shoots are left! I am very excited about how it has turned out, this is definitely out most abitious film to date and I am sure that it will be worth the wait for all of you indie horror fans out there. With that said, we have also been busy with raising funds for our Stephen King "Dollar Baby" adaptation of "Cain Rose Up" and promoting out multimedia services, which bring us to the subject of todays post.

As you all know, late last year we began offering our award winning multimedia services to the general public (we offer most servioces nationwide). So far it was been a tough battle to promote since we have largely been doing it via grassroots web campaigns. But slowly we have started to reach some clients and we are trying everything including slashing our prices to attract potential customers. Along side our audio, video and graphic design serves we have teamed up with a professional printer and are now offering a full range of print services as well. To spread the word, we created a new promo to highlight some of our current offers and we have taht video for you below!

JITB Update & Ybor Festival Showing!

Hey horror fans, we have been super busy here at Dark Harvest Productions with the shooting of our film "Jack in the Box". I recently started a new job here in Tampa at ABC Action news and this along with a few other issues caused some setbacks that resulted in not being able to shoot for the past couple weeks. This past Wednes we finally got back on track and started rolling cameras again on the first of 4 scenes that are needed to complete the film. We wrapped the "Purgatory Scene" at the newly opened Rhino Studios in St.Petersburg, FL.

Next Wednes & Thurs, April 14 & 15th respectively, we will shoot the "Driving" & "Lakeside Dock" scenes, leaving us with one final shoot to wrap the film. We are so close to wrapping with a total of 3 pages (out of 20) left! We hope to have the film wrapped in the next two weeks, and have a locked edit by late May. As always we will keep you up to date on the production.

Lastly, we had mentioned recently that our last film "Knicker Knockers" had been chosen to play at the Ybor Festival of the Moving Images opening night. I am excited to let you know that the show was a success. The film was shown to a packed house and afterward I received some great responses from those who attended. It was exhilarating to see my film on a full size theater screen in front of a packed audience. I really hope we will have more opportunities to screen the film at festivals near you soon!

Knicker Knockers Hits Ybor Festival of the Moving Image!

Hey guys just a quick note, I received notification from Daniel Brienza that our short film "Knicker Knockers" was chosen to be in the Best of the Tampa Film Network showcase at the Ybor Festival of the Moving Image!

I am really excited to be a part of this and hope that the short will bring a larger audience to the short. I was also informed that after the showing there would be a Q/A session with me as the Director for those in the audience!

Well guys we have technically been in production for two weeks on "Jack in the Box', and I apologize for the delay in updating the blog but I have just been so busy between the new movie and interviewing for my new job (I got a job at ABC News here in Tampa!).

With that said we finally started rolling on March 11th, and also shot the 12th, 17th and had a 14 hour shoot day on Saturday March 20th at the main house location. In all honestly the shoots went very well considering many issues with crew either bailing, or no call/ no showing. Obviously on a low/no budget film like this such things are a consistent problem. But despite these issues we had a tight knit core group of crew that made it every shoot and we were able to stay on schedule. With these four days of shooting we were able to wrap all the shots at the house location and are now officially around 80% complete with the production.

The rest of the shoot is small off site shoots that I am still trying to secure locations for. One scene requires a lakeside dock location that I have not been able to find. You think it'd be easy considering I on the coast of Western Florida and there are numerous lakes and fishing docks around. The trouble is finding one with a power source nearby as we don't not have access to sufficient generators to power the kind of lighting that is required to power thousands of watts of lighting equipment. Luckily I have had some decent leads in that regard.

Also a scene which I had planned to use a studio at my Alma Mater backfired when I found out that we could use fog machines in the building (which is necessary for the scene) due to problems with the smoke alar systems that are activated by fog machine units. So we are also trying to quickly find a replacement shoot location for this scene.

Other than those two scenes, and one more which involves some green screen work, we are are done. The three scenes mentioned are very easy shoots compared to the stuff we have already wrapped so I hope to have the principal photography completed in the next couple of weeks. In the mean time, I have just started to log and transfer the footage from the last four days of shooting and will begin a rough edit of that material very shortly. Realistically I hope to have post-production of the film wrapped by the end of May, and as always those of you who are members of our Facebook Group will get an exclusive first look web premiere before we even enter it into film festival's.

I hope you guys are excited about this movie, because I sure am. I think this is the best script I have written to date and is a bit different than any of my previous films. I think you'll all be pleasantly surprised once you see the final result, I think it's going to be both really creepy and comedic at the same time. The footage I have reviewed so far looks amazing, and I want to thanks my cast and crew for their belief in me and this film and all their hard work to help make it a reality!

Dark Harvest Makes Front Page News in Kansas... AGAIN!

Hey guys, I have been busy with the first couple days of shooting for "Jack in the Box" and I want you all to know that it's going great! I will talk more about that in another entry but I also wanted to let you guys know that we made the front page of another newspaper back home in Kansas!

This new article makes two front page stories in just as many weeks and I am very excited to be getting some love and exposure from the hometown crowd. Honestly, I had no idea that the article had been published until one of my good friends back home posted a message on my facebook letting me know that she had read the article and congratulated me. A few weeks prior the Kansan had contacted me but after the interview I had not heard anything back from them about it and figured they weren't running the story after all, so today's news was a pleasant surprise for sure.

I am really hoping that this new exposure can garner interest in the home town crowd to donate and help make my adaptation of "Cain Rose Up" a reality. I have worked so hard to spread the word, and offered many incentives to raise the funding but so far I have only raised just about $700 of the $5000 total I'd like to have. But I think in the end, once the film is done, all my hard work will make the film that much more of an accomplishment.

Dark Harvest Makes Front Page News in Kansas!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to drop a line and let you all know that I was recently interviewed by two newspapers back home in Kansas and have had some interest by a third. I spoke with both the Newton Kansan, My hometown paper as well as the El Dorado Times which is the town I lived in prior to my move to Florida. I spoke with them about my Stephen King "Dollar Baby" adaptation of "Cain Rose Up" as well as the Kansas Film Network social network that I started last year and has been growing rapidly.

Anyhow, I was contacted today by the El Dorado Times and informed that the story had ran on the front page in Todays (Feb 16th, 2010) Edition of the newspaper. They sent me a scan of the article and also a link to the online version of the story. I am very excited to finally get a little attention back home and truly hope that this article can garner some support from the hometown crowd for my adaptation of "Cain Rose Up', as I hope to finally start shooting it this summer.

I want to Thank the El Dorado times and all of you out there who have supported me thus far in making this film a reality. I am truly grateful to have others who believe in what I am trying to do as much as I do. "Jack in the Box" Prop UPDATE!

Hey guys, we are only a few weeks away from the "Jack in the Box" shoot! We recently went through a bit of a rough spot when several crew members and to be let go, sadly these members weren't taking the film serious. But I had kind of planned for such a thing, and now I feel we are actually stronger since we were able to root out those who were potentially a detriment to the production. Now i feel I have a solid group of dedicated individuals who are ready to make this film a reality.

With that said, we are on schedule and I wanted to share some more behind the scenes info with you. a few weeks back I posted some pics from the construction of the Jack in the Box prop being constructed at Brain Child SPFX. I wanted to share the latest on that project with you guys as the prop nears completion. Seemingly all that is needed now is a coat of paint!

I am getting to the point that my films are too complicated for me to be doing so many jobs and wearing so many hats but sadly on a no-budget production there really isn't an alternative! Kansas Film Network Meeting!

Hey everyone, we are now nearing 150 Members at the Kansas Film Network! The Kansas Film Network is the social networking site I created as a free service to the film community back in my home state of Kansas. My vision was a social networking site that would allow the small film community in KS to network and potentially collaborate with each other while also allowing new comers and pro's alike to mingle and learn. This site is growing steadily, and I want to thank you all for taking part. I really wish there had been a resource like this when I was in KS and I am glad to help in anyway possible to make this site a success and get you all collaborating.

With that said, I wanted to inform you all that several members have been working hard to put together the first meeting of the Kansas Film Network, and that will be happening next month! I hope you all will consider attending as it will be a great chance to network with one another. Also there will be a special guest speaker, Producer/Director Rod Pocowatchit whose recently shot a horror feature film in the Wichita area called "The Dead Can't Dance". "Jack in the Box" Casting Is Complete!

Hello everyone, I just wanted to drop you all a line and let you know that I have completed casting for my new film "Jack in the Box" and wanted to first and foremost thank all of you for coming out. I know that most casting directors do not give such a response, and instead leave those who didn't get the roles to wonder. I really had a tough decision to make, with so many talented people to choose from. Ultimately though, only a few of you could make the cut, and I want you all to know that though you didn't get picked this time, you should continue to pursue your dreams. In the weeks prior to the casting call I spent at least an hour a day responding to emails, literally at least a hundred people contacted me and only a fraction ended up showing up to the casting call. Some people have the drive and persistence to make it in this industry and others don't. So pat yourselves on the back for making this far and never give up the dream. I wish you all the best of luck in your endeavors.

Scary New Years! A 2009 Dark Harvest Productions Retrospect

Hey Horror fans, first and foremost I want to wish all of you a Happy New Years and also thank all of your for your continued support. I am going to get a bit mushy here for once but I really want you all to know that it means a lot to have such good friends out there who are always supportive of me as I continue to chase this lifelong dream, even when I am spamming your inboxes with Dark Harvest info, so THANKS!

Now I am not one of those people that hold a lot of reverence to the New years holiday. Honestly I rarely celebrate it, usually opting out for drunken debauchery to instead partake in a night of horror film watching. But I definitely see the significance in looking back at what the last year brought and looking forward to what the next one will bring. I thought I would take a quick look back at the year with your guys and look at our accomplishments as well as failures and also give you a little inside into what's in store for the future of Dark Harvest Productions as we go into 2010.

2009 was honestly a great year for us, probably the best yet although it was full of trials and tribulations. Many of you may remember that going into 2009 we talked about how it was going to be "The Year of Dark Harvest" and talked of our intentions of shooting three new short films including "Knicker Knockers", "Killer Head" and "Survivor Syndrome". As we all now know, only one of those shorts was shot and the other two went the wayside. Sadly the biggest reason for this was money. Even making a small 15 minute short film requires so much time, energy and money. Around June, just before we started shooting "Knicker Knockers' I was unjustly and unexpectedly let go from my job at the State Attorney's Office here in Tampa. This was a huge blow, and I have still not full recovered or found employment. With such a huge blow to my already laughable income we decided to trek on and shot "Knicker Knockers", which honestly I can say is my crowning achievement thus far in my film making career, and shows that I am definitely improving in my craft. And the valuable lessons I learned from that film are worth every drop of sweat and every dollar I spent to make it a reality.

With all that negativity aside, the rest of the year was pretty eventful. Here at Dark Harvest we stepped up our web presence by having a slick new website (www.darkharvestfilms.com) created that brought all of the Dark Harvest Productions web promotions under one roof and hopefully cleared up some confusion for some. We also opened the Dark Harvest Productions Store to sell merchandise and DVD's, all of the small profit made goes towards funding new films. This hasn't proven to be very successful yet, we sold very little in 2009 but I hope as we continue to build our name and reputation and work on larger projects we will start to raise a little working capital from this.

Hand in hand with the new website and web presence via our Facebook Group we started to gain a small but loyal fan base for our work and were able to get our work to the masses. Using our Facebook Group we were also able to start offering some small contests to give back to the fans a little, we are currently running are biggest one yet! And the Group has helped us reach audiences not only here in the US, but also we started to gain some viewers in the European horror scene. And with all honesty I think European Horror fans are far more demanding than most of their US counterparts, they love horror and seem to give the same reverence to indie horror film makers as they do bigger names. So I want to give a shout out to all my friends overseas.

The biggest news though for Dark Harvest in 2009 was probably our first film festival win at Hauntcon 2009 with our short "Crotch Rot". Sure it wasn't Cannes or Sundance, but even if it was a small festival it felt good to finally get some recognition for our hard work. We entered several other festivals but didn't get into any others. Either way we really achieved something great, and from the blog posts of one festival we definitely made an impression. I honestly think that our films are a little controversial for most peoples tastes, and some people have told me to tone it down a little to make it more commercial, but what is art if not to make a statement? And I think our latest short "Knicker Knockers:" pushed that even further and showed people that we weren't going to back down with our in your face morality tales.

After over 6 months unemployed, having no luck finding any jobs and bills and student loan payments looming I decided it was time to try and do my own thing and make my own money. So I decided to start offering the same services we use to create our films to the general public. This was the beginning of "Dark Harvest Productions Multimedia Services" and while we are still trying to get off our feet (The average small business takes about 3 years to become profitable)I really hope to start making a name for myself and getting some business here in Tampa (and nationwide as most of our services can be done for anyone with the exception of actual on site Productions). So my hopes for this coming year are to further expand this side of the company, and ultimately make my own money.

So with 2009 out of the way, there's no where to go but forward into 2010. And we have a lot planned for next year. Our focus is obviously to continue making short films, and we have several new projects in the works. The first of which as you probably know already is "Jack in the Box", and we are already well into pre-production on that one. Right now we are planning to start shooting that film in Mid-February, but there is so much to do before we can start rolling cameras.

As many of you know, I have been trying desperately for close to 2 years to raise the funding for our short film based on Stephen King's story "Cain Rose Up" that we received permission to do. In late 2009 I started a new campaign called "FUNDraising Cain" in an attempt to raise the money to shoot the film. So far we have had some mild success, raising just over $400 of the $5,000 total to make it a reality. For those of you who aren't familiar with the new campaign, we are raising the funding through small $30 donations. Everyone who donates receive a Special Edition T-Shirt to show their support of the arts, as well as a "Special Thanks" screen credit on the finished film. We are going to continue this until we raise the necessary funding, but my goal is to start production this summer.

So at the moment "Jack in the Box" and "Cain Rose Up" are the main focus for production in 2010. We do have several other projects that we would like to get off the ground if time and resources permit, including "Killer Head" that has been in a constant state of delay for close to two years. Another project that we had toyed around with is a adaptation of one H.P Lovecraft's stories "Pickman's Model". I am a huge Lovecraft fan and this story is one of my all time favorites. I have not written a script for it yet, but have several pages of notes and sketches that I have made over the past year, so i hope to bring this project to fruition sooner rather than later.

Lastly, in 2010 we will continue our Podcasts, both audio and Video, and the Dark Harvest Harbinger Newsletter. Our goal is to continue to produce original short horror content and continue to promote and reach new viewers worldwide. Also to continue to learn and grow in our craft and eventually in the coming years to try producing a feature film. We want to thank all of you out there that support Dark Harvest Productions and have helped us to make our projects a reality, we have not and will not forgot those of you who have helped us to make this dream a reality! So please stay tuned, because 2009 was just another step upward on the long ladder to success!

Indie Film Tip #2: FX Light Dimmer

Hey guys, we are back with yet another Indie Film Tip for you. We are going to try to start doing these at least once a month to help all of you with your indie film projects. I have been busy with pre-production on my own short film "Jack in the Box" and since I am working with a practical zero budget I am trying to figure out cheap ways to do as much myself as possible.

One such effect that I have been trying to figure out is how to create Lightning Flashes that are strong enough to light up an already lit room without renting an expensive Lightning Box. I have still yet to figure that one out, but my second problem is getting some lamps and other practical lights on set to dim along with the storm as if the power is surging. Now one solution is that you can buy premade boxes online, but good units I found run over $200. And if you build it yourself you can not only have the satisfaction of accomplishment but also save some money for other aspects of your production.

First off, keep in mind that I am in no way, shape or form a handyman type. I scoured the internet for days browsing several DIY builds and most of them just seem so overly complicated. But I finally found a easy build that is also supposedly under $20! So I wanted to share this with all of you and save you the trouble of wasting your time searching.

One of my friends on Facebook, Dustin Wenger contacted me and told me that he had done a build for a dimmer earlier in the year and offered these tips"

"I made my own dimmer earlier this year, and I would recommend using heavier gauge wire than they do, like a power tool replacement cord, and a dial-type dimmer seems more practical to me. Also, there are dual outlet boxes that will hold the dimmer and outlets in one tidy package. Very easy project though, and very worthwhile!"

Indie Film Tip: Smash Props Breakaway Glass

Hey guys, here at Dark Harvest Productions we like to share as much info with all of you other aspiring film makers out there as we can. After all, if there is a way that we can save you some time or money on your productions then we have done our job. For our next short film, "Jack In the Box" there is a scene that requires the lead to throw a glass beer bottle across the room which shatters and sends glass shards flying everywhere.

Now as you can imagine this brings several issues to mind, not only for the safety of actors and crew but also for safety of the location we are renting. To avoid bloody wounds, or knocking holes in walls we started looking at alternatives to using "real" glass beer bottles. The obvious choice for me was to go with the same kind of products they use in Hollywood films, which is called "sugar glass' Or "breakaway glass".

When you see a scene in a movie where someone is hit with a glass bottle, this is what we are talking about. These products are widely used in motion pictures and even on stage productions. Breakaway glass can we molded into virtually any shape, from beer bottles to ceramic dishes, and is made of either formed sugar or a special type of plastic that breaks easily and without injuring people or property.

The drawback of using these props is that they can be very expensive. While researching pricing for our film, I was appalled to find that most companies were charging anywhere from $24 to $45 per breakaway beer bottle (it costs much more for larger items), not to mention outrageous shipping prices due to the fragile nature of the product. After much frustration over the costs of the items, which would not work with my limited budget ( I needed several bottles) I was about to rewrite the script and take out the beer bottle shatter scene.

In one last attempt, I decided to check out ebay, and found one listing from a company called "Smashprops". I followed the link to their website to find that they offered high quality breakaway glass products at outrageously affordable prices! My prayers had been answered! I was thrilled to get several beer bottle props that look just as good as the real thing for only $12.00 per bottle!

Jack in the Box: Behind the Scenes Sneak Peek!

Hello Horror Fiends, Here at Dark Harvest Productions we have been hard at work on pre-production for our next short film, Jack in the Box. Most people just see the finished film but don't think about al the hard work that it took to actually put those images up on the screen. Most magicians don't reveal their secrets, but here at Dark Harvest we like to get all of you in on the fun, and give you a peek at how we do what we do.

In preparation for our new film, I hired a talented Artisan/Prop Builder by the name of Mike Roland to create the "Jack in the Box". Mr. Roland is no newbie, he has been in the industry for years and his most recent projects includes working on Herschall Gordon Lewis's latest film "The Uh-Oh Show". Mike brings with him experience and a love of the genre that is sure to make the film that much more of a success.

Mr. Roland has been hard at work in his studio making the sinister children's toy a reality. Over the past week we have talked about the project, and he has sent me some amazing stills and video clips to keep me up to date on the progress of the project. So today we have a special treat for you today, a behind the scenes look at that process.

Hello Horror Fans! Here at Dark Harvest Productions our campaign to bring of Stephen King Dollar Baby film to the screen has just shifted into full gear! For those of you who aren't familiar, last year we received permission from author Stephen King to adapt his short story "Cain Rose Up" from his book Skeleton Crew. Under the Dollar Baby Deal we are able to produce a non-profit film based on the project. That means we cannot seek traditional investment and instead are raising the funding via donations from friends and fans like you!

We are trying to raise a total of $5,000 dollars and so far have raised a little over $300. So please donate today and help us make Dollar baby History! New Short Announced! JACK IN THE BOX!

Hey everyone, I have some exciting news. Even though Knicker Knockers has just been finished and is being sent to Festivals Nationwide we are pleased to announce that our next short has already started early Pre-Production! After much debate and several great scripts to choose from we decided to pursue "Jack in the Box" as our next controversial tale of horror!

We can't reveal too much in regards to the films story and details but we can tell you that this will be one of our darkest films to date. Already a prop builder has been hired to create the titular villain and casting is planned to start in Late December, possibly early January.

We will let you know as soon as we get any new info on the film, until then you can see a short teaser trailer that we put together to go along with the announcement! Enjoy and be sure to spread the message of Dark Harvest Productions to all the horror fans in your life!

"Knicker Knockers" Premiere a SUCCESS!

Hey guys, I know it has been a while since my last post, and a lot has been going on. First and foremost "Knicker Knockers" is finished and was premiered on October 30th at the Tampa Film Network's "Horror Film Night". The short showed with about 6 other short films from the area, and it was the only film that had audience questions afterwards and was called "Amazing" from the TFN Host.

At the same time as the actual premiere, I also ran a 2 day web premiere that was exclusive to my Facebook friends and fans, and the response was overwhelmingly positive. I am having another showing on Wednesday Nov 11th, and will be soon sending it to film festivals nation wide including Tromadance and Tampa's very own Gasparilla International Film Festival. I think we really have a good shot!

I want to once again thank all of the cast and crew, as well as those that showed up for the premiere both in person and online! We taking a short break but are hoping to get our next short rolling early next year!

Dark Harvest Starts Social Networking site for KS film makers!

Hey guys, I just wanted to drop in and let you all know that I have been busy with a ton of new little side projects, one of which includes a new social networking site for the KS film community. Due to some unexpected events it looks like I amy be moving back to Kansas a bit sooner than I originally intended. Over the past year I have been trying to bring together the small film community in KS so that once I did return, I would have a network in place to continue my work.

Honestly it appears that no one else has thought of this. I scoured the internet and could not find a single group or website dedicated to networking for the film community in KS. so I took it upon myself to make it happen, I started out by creating the "Kansas Film network" group of Facebook. But I knew we needed something more substantial so the past few days I dedicated myself to creating a new Kansas FIlm network social network!

Hey guys I have bern hard at work on Knicker Knockers trying to get post finished. We are still a couple weeks away as I have tons of compositing and audio work to do, but at the same time I have been busy building the DVD in my free time. the DVD is coming out great, and in Dark Harvest tradition will be packed to the rafters with bonus features and easter eggs!

I am hoping to have the DVD ready to go so that once post is finished then we can just slap the encode on the DVD and be ready to go! So right now it's looking like early October. DVD's will be made available for a $10 Donation in the Dark harvest Productions Store!

You heard right! We are busy at work on post-production for our highly anticipated new short film "Knicker Knockers"! We are hoping to have it finished by the end of Sept for a Cast/Crew private screening alongside my DP Sid Majurie's latest film "Blood Song". We are also really excited to announce that all members of our Facebook Group "Dark Harvest Productions Fans" will be getting an EXCLUSIVE first look at the film!

But how does it work? Here's the lowdown. Some larger Film Festivals require that their selections be "Premiere's" and in order to maintain "Knicker Knockers" eligibility in that regard we are not going to show the film anywhere until it hits it's first Festival, which will most likely be sometime next year. We are hoping to premiere it at the 2010 "Gasparilla International Film Festival" right here in Tampa, FL. BUT.... There are a couple ways you can see it before then.

1) There will be the aforementioned private Screening for the Cast and Crew of the Film later this month, it will be held in Tampa and will only be open to Cast and Crew members of both "Knicker Knockers" and Sid Majuries "Blood Song".

2) At the same time as the Cast/Crew Premiere, We are also extending a special EXCLUSIVE web viewing for members of the "Dark Harvest Fans" Group on Facebook. ALL members of the group will be notified and receive an exclusive "VIP Access" web address that will give them the link and time of the viewing. The movie will ONLY be available for a 2-3 hour time frame at the specified time.

3) Limited Edition DVD's will be made available via a small donation to Dark Harvest Productions sometime later this fall. I will have more info on that once I have more info, but they are expected to be made available via the Dark Harvest Store at www.darkharvestfilms.com

THEY'RE COMING!! Knicker Knockers Principal Photography Wrapped!

After many delays and scheduling issues we have finally wrapped Principal Photography on our latest film "Knicker Knockers"

All in all, this film has been about a year in the making, from the initial first draft of the script all the way up until tonight's final shoot. It has been a long, hard and fun road, and I can truly say that I have learned a lot from the experience.

I really want to extend my thanks and appreciation to the cast and crew, because without you guys this would not have happened. I was truly blessed to be surrounded by friends during this experience, all of which made some serious sacrifices to make the film a reality. Some of you guys missed work, drove great distances and made your own home available with blind faith in me. I know I have told you guys "thanks" throughout the shoot, but with al honesty I do not feel that will ever do any justice.

So once again, "THANK YOU" to the following people who made this a reality! Get ready guys, because we are going to blow them out of the water when they see this thing!

Hey everyone, sorry it took em a few days to update the blog. Had a lot going on in preparation for the last "Knicker Knockers" shoot this week. I am very excited about the film and it has been coming along very good. It's amazing what my crew and I were able to accomplish on such limited resources. I think it will really show off everyone's hard work, and hopefully garner them all some much deserved attention.

Cain Rises Again! Dollar Baby info!

Hey guys it has been a long time since I last mentioned any news on my dollar baby adaptation of "Cain Rose Up". For those of you who are new to the Dark Harvest Productions community I would like to fill you in. Back In early 2008 I received permission from famous horror auteur Stephen King to produce a non-profit adaptation of his short story "Cain Rose Up" for his short story collection "Skeleton Crew". You can read more about the dollar baby deal HERE. Essentially the dollar baby deal allows me to make a film to promotional purposes only, but these shorts have launched some careers including that of my favorite adapter of King's work, Frank Darabont.

So last year after receiving the contracts from Mr. King I started the long fundraising process by starting a web campaign with a video spiel and a website to accept donations. You see under the dollar baby deal since it is a non-profit adaptation, we are not able to raise money in typical film financing standards. Instead we have to rely on either out of pocket funding or donations. So for a year I tried to raise the funding, and I was not successful. I have to admit that I was disappointed, i thought Mr. King's legions of fans would make it easy to raise small donation from a large number of people to make it a reality. Unfortunately that was not the case, I think that the fact that there was another film maker also doing an adaptation of the same story that made things confusing, and the current economic turmoil has made this film a hard project to get rolling so I put it on the back burner to work on some other projects.

So that brings us to the present. I just wanted to give you all and update and let you know that I am still dedicated to making the film a reality. I recently graduated so school is now out f the way to allow me to focus more on my films including my current project "Knicker Knockers' which wraps next weekend. AS soon as we are done with that I am going to start putting my efforts back into making "Cain Rose Up" a reality. Some of you may remember the animated "teaser trailer" that I used to try and raise funding last time, and I am going to actually be shooting a all-new trailer to garner the interest of the legions of SK fans out there.

Hey guys, just wanted to drop a line with some "Knicker Knockers" updates for ya. I have been busty with editing of the footage that we have so far. Right now the film is about 70% Complete and looking fan-fucking- tastic. We have only two more days of principal photography to wrap, and those dates are August 28th & 29th! So as long as those shots run smooth we are looking at an edited and finished film by next month! WHOOHOO!

Also I have been busy designing the DVD artwork, which is the main reason for this post. As always I give my loyal blog readers the latest info on Dark harvest Projects before anyone! Hey guys, just wanted to drop a quick line to let you know that we have a lot going on over here at Dark Harvest Productions.

First I wanted to let you all know that yesterday the "Knicker Knocker's" crew got back together to wrap up a couple of scenes for the film that took place at a different location. Instead of shooting at the mansion, we shot at a house in Oldsmar, FL to get the "bedroom" scenes out of the way. Right now the film is about 60% wrapped, and there is still two more days of shooting back at the mansion location to finally finish principal photography. I will keep you all up to date, but it looks like we won't be done until Mid-August due to the crew's conflicting schedules.

Also in other news, I redesigned the Dark Harvest T-Shirts and wanted to go ahead and reveal those here to you guys on the blog. They new design is cool, and I am hoping that you guys will agree! Surprise!! New Short Film "Bloody Mary"

Okay so this one is honestly a surprise even to me! Last night I was home alone, bored and could not sleep around 2AM. So what does any good film maker do? Why make a film of course! So I single handedly shot a short film and we have it for you to see now!

The new short is called "Bloody Mary" and I even act in it! I honestly did not think it would come out very good and thought it would end up in a random folder on my hard-drive and forgotten like some of my experiments in film making but surprisingly it came out really good. I was impressed enough with the result to go ahead and add it to the official Dark Harvest site.

Knicker Knockers Update and info on Next Short!

Hey guys I just wanted to let you all know that "Knicker Knockers" is going good. I have been busy editing the footage that we did get and the movie is about 50% complete. I can say with all honesty that if the rest of the shoot goes as well as the last one did, we are going to have one hell of a cool short on our hands. So far I am more than happy with the outcome and am greatly anticipating wrapping Principal Photograph in the next couple weeks, the only thing keeping that from happening at the moment is trying to setup a schedule that works for everyone.

Also I want you al to know that I am already looking at my next short, and plan to start Pre-Production as soon as "Knicker Knockers" wraps. I have a tendency to wait about a year between shorts and I am trying to instead get at least 2 shorts shot this year. So I am looking at two scripts, one of my own called "Jack in the Box" and another that was written by my friend Christopher Hough called "Flatline". Should I choose Flatline it would be the first time I directed something that was not my own. Interestingly Mr. Hough and I actually have a similar writing style, and have a lot of common interests in film taste. And the aforementioned script has a style similar to the stuff that I like to write (people being punished for their sins).

With that said I hope you all stay tuned. I project about another 2 months and the film should be cut, and ready for viewing. Of course all of your Dark Harvest Blog readers will be the first to know. We are hoping to get the Video Podcast series up and running again soon with the long awaited second video podcast, and will surely have more info on these projects then. Knicker Knockers First 3 -Day Shoot is a Wrap!

What a weekend! We started shooting Knicker Knockers last Friday as the first of the three day weekend shoot. We did get a lot done over the three days, the movie is now about 50% in the can. Sadly we didn't get all of the shots that we wanted and are now a couple of days behind schedule and won't be able to pick up the rest of the shoot for a couple weeks. But overall things went very well considering we only had 3 hours of darkness to shot each of the nights.

Day 1, which was Friday June 19th was the day that really set the production back. We really hadn't had a chance to go in and plan out lighting arrangement so that took up most of the night. After we finally starting rolling we had some problems with the Glidecam as the HVX200 that was on top of it was a bit to heavy. ALso we deviated from the storyboards which i think ultimately sealed our fates for the shoot. We ended up knocking that scene out just before our midnight cut off time and went home.

Learning from the mistakes that were made the night before, Saturday went smooth as can be. We got the lights set up and stuck to the game plan and knocked the interior entrance scenes out of the way. Things went great, and everyone was having a blast. We still didn't get as much as we hoped done, but in that one run probably knocked out a good 20% of the script. So Saturday was with out a doubt a great success. That night we even had time to snag a few pics even though I didn't have any extra hands to run the handheld video and still camera's to get behind the scenes stuff (which is unfortunate).

Sunday once again went pretty well. We hit a few snags, mainly the camera Jib that was missing parts and ended up requiring a trip to Wal-Mart to grab weights and nearly two hours to set up. But once we got that shot in the can we shoot all the outside shots in one swift swoop including all the big gore set pieces. The crew was all tired and working in heat that was in the high 90's (with the sun down) drained all of us and put a couple of us on edge. But overall we accomplished a lot and got some really good footage knocked out.

Originally I had scheduled for three days with the intent of shooting later each night, sadly we were restricted to a Midnight shoot schedule. Another thing I totally forgot to factor at the time was that the sun doesn't go down until about 9PM in the summer time which left us only 3 hours of darkness and the entire film takes place at night! So we didn't finish all the shots that we needed at the mansion location so we are planning to continue that shoot in a couple weeks once a few crew members return from vacation. I do have the footage we got and between now and then will begin to edit the stuff that I have.

The movie is coming along great and is by far going to be the best film I have created yet! I Want to thank my great cast and crew for their hard work and dedication in making this a reality, and I hope you all will keep your eyes peeled here at the Dark Harvest Blog over the next couple weeks as we will be posting exclusive clips and photos from the set! Okay so most movie sets have leaked photos, but they are usually pretty tame stuff like crew members or blurry photos of the monster. What we have for your today is an EXCLUSIVE first look photo from the set of our latest short film "Knicker Knockers", and it sure as hell isn't a blurry mess. This photo was taken from a Sat June 13th shoot but Principal Photography doesn't officially start until Friday June 19th.

Crotch Rot HauntCON Win Update!

Wow, the past few weeks have truly been amazing and stressful. I have meet a lot of really great people, and forged some new friendships that will surely be fruitful for years to come. A lot of very talented people came out to the auditions and responded to ads when I was looking to fill my crew. Sadly not everyone could be a part of it, and I hope those of you that didn't make the Knickers Crew will stay in contact as there is without a doubt more to come in the future.

I am really excited about the response I had to both of the casting call votes, and will definitely continue this tradition on future films. I think the decision for the female role was pretty easy to make, but the guys were really tough as I think they all brought something really unique to the table. But unfortunately only one man could get the part. So with that said I want to thank all of you for coming out and taking the time to audition for our latest film. I would also like to introduce my pick of Christopher Hough as the role of the demonic entity known as the "Knicker Knocker"!

The voting for Dark Harvest's next leading lady was such a success that we thought we'd let you all get involved in casting the male actor who will be playing the "Knicker Knocker" as well. Of the 8 guys that came out, I have narrowed it down to these three.

I honestly am having a harder time casting the monster as I did casting the actress because there are a few guys that are in my opinion equally talented and each bring something unique to the mix. Michael has some a lot of theatre experience and thus can really project his performances. Marcus has a very unique dance background that I think could really add to the monsters on screen persona. And lastly Chris comes from a horror fanatic background that I really think could prove to be beneficial to the film since he knows exactly what I am talking about when I reference films.

Dark Harvest Reveals "Knicker" Leading Lady!

We are pleased to inform you all that we have finally made our decision for the leading lady for our next film "Knicker Knockers". Last weeks online poll was a smashing success and I also want to thank all of you who participated in the voting and especially to all the amazing talent that showed up for the call.

An interesting thing I notice is that every time I cast only about 5% of the actors that respond to the ads actually show up to the casting call, so for those of you who didn't make it I urge you to continue to chase your dreams because most people don't even have the drive to make it to the casting call.

I am really glad that the polls reflected that the voters agreed with me on who I thought was the obvious choice for the role of Megan. So without further adue I would like to welcome the lovely and talented Janelle Figueroa to the "Knicker Knockers" crew. We all are very excited and look forward to working with you.

Things are really coming together for out next short 'Knicker Knockers. I have been busy touring locations, casting the past two weekends and doing some makeup and prop tests. Everything is falling into place nicely and I expect for cameras to start rolling the second week of June which is about a month away!

This has ben a long time in the coming, and I have assembled an amazing crew that I think will really help to bring my vision for Knicker Knockers to life. I have been working on this now for over 6 Months and I am ecstatic about finally seeing the "Knicker Knockers" released from my mind and onto the big and not so big screen!

I did the first round of casting last week and will be casting again this weekend. This is very exciting and the first time I have ever done something like this and I may even be somewhat of a pioneer in this regards.

2nd CHANCE CASTING CALL! We didn’t get the turnout we needed last weekend so we are doing it again!

Award Winning Dark Harvest Productions is Seeking a NON-UNION female lead between the ages of 18-25. Ideal candidate would be attractive, fit and dedicated. Must have a wide range of emotions and imagination to draw upon.

Also seeking a MALE actor, that is fit and extremely tall and thin to play the films 'MONSTER'. Must be comfortable wearing a skintight full body suit to play this role. Ideal actor would be over 6ft tall, and “stick thin”.

Knicker Knockers is the terrifying tale of a young woman who is home alone in the middle of the night. Suddenly the peace and tranquility of the night is broken by a knock at the door...

Knickers Casting Update!

Hey I am reporting back after one long weekend of casting. Saturday was the official casting call for Knicker Knockers. The casting call was scheduled for 10AM-5PM, but I ended up staying there until 7PM, this was a good and not so good thing and all in all I was admittedly pretty disappointed. It turns out that I am going to have to schedule a second casting call after all.

So I arrived at the audition at 9:30 AM. I had one guy already waiting in the lobby for the part of the “monster” and so I brought him in. The guy wasn’t quite what I was looking for but he sure as hell had the enthusiasm! I had no one else come in until around noon, when another young man came in to try out for the monster and he was exactly what I was looking for so I think casting for this part is over (I still would like to look at a few more guys though just in case).

As for the lead actress role, this really did not go good. I only had one actress come in between 10-4:45 and she wasn’t even there for the casting call! She had come in looking for the crew of another film that was shooting at the school that day and she tried out just for shits. So 5:00 was approaching and I had only had one girl show up, and I was starting to pack up to go. Then my cell phone started ringing off the hook, as 5-6 girls showed up all at once right at about 5:00!
While I was excited that some ladies finally showed up, this did register as a slightly bad omen in the back on my mind considering that being late to a casting call can be a sign of their work ethic when it comes time to shoot the film (I know some of them drove all the way from Orlando so I am understanding of that).

All of these girls were very unique in their own way, and brought different things to the audition. In the end though there were only 2 of these talented ladies that I thought had what I was looking for in an actress for this film. One had superior acting ability (and ironically was the only one to not have any real previous acting experience), the other had the looks I wanted but her acting was a bit overly dramatic (but damn she has the look!).

So what it boils down to is this. I have made my decision out of this lot, but it looks like I will be doing a second, short casting call and will be announcing that info later this week. Now I need your opinion! This is your chance to help Dark Harvest Productions out in choosing it leading lady! Later this week I will be posting a video clip of all the actress’s that tried out, and I want you all to cast your vote!

Crotch Rot WINS 1st Place at HauntCON!

Hey guys I have some really exciting news!! Last week I posted regarding “Crotch Rot” playing at HauntCON 2009... Well... I just heard back from HauntCON and it turns out we won 1ST PLACE!!! You heard me right.... First Fucking Place. WISCONSIN audiences now have the ROT!

CROTCH ROT spreads to HauntCON this week!

I have some news that kind of came out of left field, but it appears that “CROTCH ROT” will be playing this week at HauntCON 2009 in Wisconsin! I had spoken with the guy in charge of their film festival last year and completely forgot about entering, sadly missing the deadline to submit my film. The Good news is that they contacted me last week and had me rush a copy to them so it would be there in time for the festival this week! So that means ‘Crotch Rot” will be playing at HauntCON after all!
I just thought I’d mention this in case any of you out there are planning to make it to this year’s convention, if so be sure to check out “CROTCH ROT” is contagiously fun!
